Your talk should be are three hundred words long.

You should make a real effort to be entertaining and interesting. A fun presentation is automatically better than a boring one.

You will be doing this assessment task next Wednesday. You will have 100 minutes under test conditions to write an essay. This task is closed book.

PS. I learned today that you will be able to bring in a hand-written sheet without up to twelve quotations from the book into the assessment task. So now it’s mostly closed book.

On Thursday, we will be working some more on types on sentences and how to avoid run-on sentences and comma splices. I’ll probably post more details about this later in the week.

On Friday, you will be presenting your talk about two new words to the class.

Firstly, we will look at previously asked questions and feedback from the examiners.

We’ll remind ourselves of the structure of a formal essay.

Next, we’ll look at a few essays written about this text. Our purpose hear is to see what we can learn from other people’s insights into this book.

Following that, we will start reading Scot Gardner’s novel Burning Eddy. Please bring your copy to class every session for the next three weeks. If you happen to miss English classes this week, please read the first six chapters so you keep up with the rest of the class.
