This week, you will be writing a story for an assessment piece. You will have three sessions to work on paper and one session to type up your story.
This story will be an assessment piece. All students are to complete this task.
The story should be between 800 and 1,000 words long. This story should be written in Standard Australian English. You need to pay attention to spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
This story will be around a red theme. You can expand and improve on an earlier work if you like.

Your summary will be around five hundred words long. It will contain the following information.
• The name of the book
• The name of the author
• The names of the key characters in this story
• A summary of the story (around 400 words)
This work is due on Thursday 3rd September
This work can be hand-written or typed.
This task is due next Tuesday. The date then is August 18th, 2009
Retell a section of Raymond Carver’s story So Much Water So Close to Home.
Instead of being Claire’s story, your version will be Stuart’s story.
It must be between 600 and 800 words long. Do not make it either shorter or longer.

I will not give everyone time in class to type this. It does not need to be typed. Neat writing is just fine.

Welcome back from holidays. I feel remarkably rested and I hope that you feel a bit rested yourselves.
We have a lot of work to do in the next seven weeks.
In English we need to study our film text, Good Will Hunting, write film reviews, write issue responses and do more formal essays. This Wednesday you will perform your Macbeth Out Loud and hand in your Macbeth question packs.
In Geography we have one major topic to go which is Coasts. Your volcano assignments are due in this Friday so I hope that you either did some work during the holidays or you are ready to do some serious work this week.
In History we have two topics to go, The Great Depression and World War Two. We are going to have to move quickly. Your 1920s Cultural Life Assignments are due this week.
And, since I haven’t mentioned Star Wars yet, “Do, or do not. There is no ‘try.’”
