Master Class: Introducing Miss Jones

13 09 2010

As you might know, I am heading off on a school trip this week and so I won’t be able to run the master-class activities. Happily, Miss Jones has stepped into the breach and will do this week’s activities.

So I’d encourage people to take part. Since I’ve gone to the trouble of begging and pleading with her, you should go to the trouble of making her efforts worthwhile.

Language and Technology: Last Week of Term 3

12 09 2010

On Tuesday, I will still be away and you will have a replacement teacher. For the double session, you will be watching a recent Australian film called Bran Nue Dae. Next term, we will be comparing this film to 10 Canoes, which we are working on at the moment.

On Thursday and Friday, you will have a replacement teacher, too. You will also have a collection of news articles about language and language change. Each article has between five and ten comprehension questions that go with it. I expect that you will read at least one article and fully answer all the questions for that article in each session. I also expect that some of your work quickly enough to respond to two articles each session.

Year 11 English: Final Week of Term 4

12 09 2010

You can bring in a copy of Montana 1948, a dictionary, handwritten notes, and any printed notes that I have given you.

I strongly encourage you to carefully read the sample context response. It’s not perfect, but it will give you a good idea of what a finished Year 11 response should look like.

Later in the week, as discussed, I will not be conducting our regularly scheduled sessions, as I will be away on a school trip. You can use this time to work on other subjects.

Big in Japan

12 09 2010

I know that our school has a handful of students on a cultural exchange in Japan at the moment, and two in particular from my classes, Tomb and Shaun. So, I thought I’d put this entry up in case any of these students feel like saying a quick hello to us back here in Australia, or – I guess – vice versa.
