Facts and Figures

As part of our work about international conflict and our focus on Africa, I did some research about a few countries and how they compare to Australia.

It Might Get Loud

23 08 2009

This is something for the many of you who seem massively interested in guitars and rock music. It is a documentary with The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). They talk about their music and, specifically, about playing the electric guitar.

IT MIGHT GET LOUD | Sony Pictures Classics

I can’t see any mention of an Australian release on the page, but it is sure to turn up on DVD at some stage.

Red, Space, Red: Film, Music and Teachers

12 08 2009

Yesterday, the usual writers for Red, Space, Red research and published our first Film and Music Edition. It’s something a bit different, and I am really pleased with the result.

As part of our professional learning, a group of teachers sat down this afternoon and went through the very same lesson that our students do when they write for this magazine. We only had forty minutes rather than one-hundred, but they still managed to turn out sixteen articles.

If you were one of the teachers involved, I’d be really interested in your feedback about this exercise. You could leave a comment here on this blog entry or just bowl up to me in the staffroom or corridors.

Real Life

11 08 2009

I really liked this piece that Steph wrote in class today. I’d have had her type it, but then it would have lost one of its best qualities.

Running on Empty (900k)

So Much Water Retell

10 08 2009

This task is due next Tuesday. The date then is August 18th, 2009

Retell a section of Raymond Carver’s story So Much Water So Close to Home.
Instead of being Claire’s story, your version will be Stuart’s story.

It must be between 600 and 800 words long. Do not make it either shorter or longer.
Write this neatly on loose paper.
I will not give everyone time in class to type this. It does not need to be typed. Neat writing is just fine.

This is as assessment piece. Please make sure that it is your best writing. Carefully check all your spelling and grammar.
