Novel Approach

Can anyone suggest a novel that would be good to study at year 10 with a theme about justice or social disadvantage?

Your Own Macbeth

3 09 2008

We are nearly at the end of term and nearly finished with the Scottish Play. You will be starting work on your assessment task while I am away sick and these will be presented on Thursday next week.

Working in a group of between two and five people students will rewrite a scene of Macbeth in a different style and then perform this scene.

You can choose between the following styles for your new Macbeth.

Pantomime
Science Fiction set in the year 2500
A football club set in 2008
A criminal gang set in the 1990s
A film studio set in 2010.

You don’t need to translate your scene word for word but you do need to keep similar action and similar meaning. Your work should be no less than 50% of the size of the original. For example if you choose a scene with 200 lines your version should be no less than 100 lines.

Also your version cannot be shorter than fifty lines no matter which scene you choose.

Fully Sick

I am sorry that I am not at school today. My doctor is quite certain that I have a chest infection. If I am lucky then it is just broncitis. If I am less likely then it is pneumonia.

I hope to be back on Thursday although that does depends on how well I am at that stage. I will be sending in work and, amazingly, I do expect you to do this work while I am away. Feel free to post any questions to the forum. I will check in there a couple of times a day and answer any questions.
