Massive inflation
Began printing more money in response to the French occupation of the Ruhr.
Makes international trade impossible.

July 1923 – 5000
September 1923 – 4,000,000
November 1923 – 320,000,000,000

Unemployment 40% in 1932.

Rise of the Nazi party.
During the depression Nazi groups were;
Collecting food and clothing for the poor,
Running soup kitchens
Appeared affective and caring when other people just talked.

SA: The Private Nazi Army
Provided food, accommodation and training.
1929: 40,000 members.
1932: 450,000 members.
Compared with a Germany army capped at 100,000 men.
Protected party meetings and members
Also physically attacked communists.
