Home owners going away this holiday season are being encouraged to switch appliances off at the wall or unplug them if they are not being used for an extended period.
“The simple act of unplugging appliances or switching them off at the wall before the holiday period will help the wallet and the environment,” Panasonic Australia managing director, Steve Rust, said.

Sometimes location is about what you are close to rather than what is happening where you are. Or at least that’s my slender justification for posting a link to this story.
The logistics experts calculated the most efficient route for Father Christmas to make his way round each of the world’s 2.5 billion households, and discovered he was based in the wrong place.
They decided that his workshop needed to move 5500 kilometres south, to a mountainous region of Kyrgyzstan, a country once part of the Soviet Union.

WHILE it is fashionable to dismiss the old terms of “left” and “right” as no longer having any clear political meaning, to deny them any valid usage is to miss a point always in need of making — who is for and who opposes the existing power balance.

When talking about politics people use the words left wing and right wing but just as many people are utterly baffled by this terms. This situation is not helped by the constantly changing political landscape. I thought this article did a good job of explaining what the difference means in 2007.

didactic – definition of didactic by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.
di·dac·tic (d-dktk) also di·dac·ti·cal (-t-kl)
adj.
1. Intended to instruct.
2. Morally instructive.
3. Inclined to teach or moralize excessively.
I had it in my head that didactic meant seeing the world only is absolutes and it turns out I was quite wrong. Now I need to find a word that actually means that since it is something I do like to bandy about.

In a comment Danielle suggested that I create somewhere for former students to talk to each other and to me. So I have put the discussion forum in place for this very purpose and also for current students to work together or ask me questions. It takes a few seconds to join and it would be nice to see people using it.

I would like to say a big thank you to the people who voted for me in that little popularity contest. Despite what I said in the moment this is not a lesson that corruption and dishonestly yield fruit.
The lesson is that it is nice to be appreciated. So thanks again (and I hope you are all enjoying your introduction to year eleven)
