Writing Folio: The Cat Lady

11 05 2007

Today we are writing a story called The Cat Lady and focusing of character.

When writing about a character it is useful to have an idea of how they look and what their personality is. Personality can be expressed in appearance but also in how they talk, their body language and what they say (and how they say it).

You might summarise a personality as easy going, happy, pushy, funny, nice, shy, open minded, loud or annoying. Obviously these are just some examples, there are lots of personalities out there.

Finally it is probably wise to plan your story before you start writing. This can be as simple as;
who the characters are
what the problem is
how they solve the problem

For example
Characters: Farm Boy, Mercenary, Wise Old Man
Problem: the Princess is kidnapped and the government cruel.
Solution: Rescue Princess Leia and destroy the Death Star.

It is probably worth treating the writing you do for your folio in class as drafts and writing an improved final version later in the term.
