Prohibition of alcohol
The Volstead Act. 1919. National Prohibition Act.
This banned the “manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors” in the United States.
32,000 speakeasies in New York in the 1920s.
Drinking cocktails popular in upper classes.
Prohibition repealed in December 1933.
